BIOGRAPHY

Boris Giltburg – Russian-Israeli temperament and refinement

The thirty-third seasons kicks off with the Moscow-born Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg. He won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Concours in 2013. By now, Giltburg can look back on an impressive international career and is regarded as a very subtle and passionate pianist. A remarkable debut: It is only the second time in the history of this series that a pianist plays Liszt’s complete Transcendental Etudes. Giltburg combines these in one programme with the complete Preludes, op. 32 of Rachmaninov. Truly a dashing undertaking and undoubtedly a grandiose start of the new season! The NRC Handelsblad reported: “The pianist Boris Giltburg has great affinity with music from Russian soil. He filled his latest CD with a spectacular performance of Sjostakovitsj’s Piano Concertos. One year earlier he was widely praised for his recording of, among other pieces, Rachmaninov’s Études-tableaux.
