Musical adventurer plays four different grand pianos

It’s becoming a good tradition: the new season opens with a debuting master pianist. Next season the honor falls to Alexander Melnikov. Melnikov (1973) graduated from the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Naumov. His most formative musical experiences in Moscow were his meetings with Sviatoslav Richter, who became a mentor for him and regularly invites him to festivals in Russia and France. He received prizes at important competitions such as the Robert Schumann International Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition. Melnikov is known for his often unusual programmatic and musical choices and also has a career in historical performance practice, in which he regularly collaborates with Andreas Staier and Alexei Lubimov.
