Hungarian master takes a look at the depths in the late Beethoven

In February 2011 the Hungarian piano grandmaster Sir András Schiff returned, after an absence of almost 11 years, on the stage of the Master Pianists series, with a real Schubert marathon, in which he performed the complete Impromptus and Moments Musicaux in almost two and a half hours. NRC Handelsblad praised Schiff with the maximum five-star rating and wrote: “Equally uncompromising was his masterful recital last night. Simple melodies received a great pull. Schiff let the vocal lines sway elegantly on babbling brooks, but there was always the awareness of great depths beneath the glistening surface.”
