Russian superstar overwhelming and unparalleled

Denis Matsuev belongs to the absolute cultural elite in Russia and is immensely popular with the general public. He was born on 11 June 1975 in Irkutsk in a family of musicians. His mother was a piano teacher, his father, among other things, a pianist and a composer, and both of his grandmothers also played the piano. At the age of three, Matsuev’s great talent was discovered, when he played a melody, that he had heard on television, from memory on the piano. Matsuev says about the years that followed: “I have loved to perform since my childhood, and whenever I am asked about the beginning of my career, I consider it to be the home concerts at age four or five, because they had very many things that steered me onto the right path. I then first realized that I am able to entice a certain number of people that are unknown to me with something. This is how it began.”
