Monumental Beethoven with a Cuban touch

The Cuban master pianist Jorge Luis Prats, who is known for always playing with intensity, made his debut in 2008. At the time he was completely unknown in the Netherlands as a pianist, but since that overwhelming, charismatic recital his name has been established. Trouw wrote: “Until last week no one here had heard of master pianist Jorge Luis Prats. After his recital in Amsterdam last Sunday that changed drastically. The South American piano feast that the 52-year-old Cuban presented in the completely sold-out Concertgebouw became a debut that will be talked about for a long time to come. Prats turned out to have absolute control over the piano when dealing with the most difficult pieces. The musical story and the transmission of emotions, rather than technical display, were central. His playing was more contagious and warm-blooded than that of pianists who performed in recent years. And that with a repertoire that for the most part had seldom or never been heard in the master series recitals!
