BIOGRAPHY

Canadian master pianist back with Liszt marathon

Louis Lortie (Montreal, 1959) was a frequently heard and seen pianist on the Dutch podiums from the nineties onwards. He is still a grandiose and versatile pianist. We are very happy to be able to present him again with a unique programme, after an absence of almost a quarter of a century. Never before in the long history of the Master Pianists series has a pianist played Liszt’s complete Années de Pèlerinage, a more than 2.5 hour musical journey full of virtuosity and spirituality. His career of more than four decades has brought him successes all over the world. He has an enormous repertoire and performs regularly with leading orchestras as well as in recitals. He collaborates with conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sir Andrew Davis and Jaap van Zweden. Since 2016 he is one of the six masters-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
