Technical and musical superiority in every repertoire

The French-Canadian master-pianist Marc-André Hamelin unexpectedly made his debut in April 2015 as a substitute. This overwhelming success was repeated in May 2015. NRC said: ‘it was a performance as we rarely hear.’  The reviewer of Trouw gave Hamelin’s latest performance the highest possible rating of five stars and referred to a sensational and matchless recital: ‘Although today he faces stiff competition in his virtuosity, in particular from young Russian and Asian artists, Hamelin remains in a separate class with respect to the vision that penetrates his music. Never in the past did I hear Debussy’s Images in such an evocative and nuanced way as under Hamelin’s hands. This is not just playing the piano, but it is pure magic! Hamelin’s play displayed a superiority that is rare, even in this series of Meesterpianisten.‘
